“Literacy is a bridge from misery to hope.”
– Kofi Annan
Reading matters because it is a factor which contributes largely to an individual’s success and well-being.
Getting an assessment as soon as possible enables the student to get the help they require without unnecessary delays. The delay puts them even further behind in their comprehension and comparative knowledge of the world around them.
The purpose of assessment is to know where to begin, or what has been accomplished.
We assess for visual distortion of the print on the page by pre-screening for Irlen Syndrome. If necessary, the student will be referred to an Irlen Screener.
We assess word attack or decoding ability.
We assess fluency.
Some older and newly reading students will be offered an assessment of their level of vocabulary and reading comprehension.
We offer the Dyslexia Determination Test (DDT) which will determine if patterns characteristic of Dyslexia are present, and if so, also the type and severity.
Parents will be presented a summary of the assessments.
At ASPIRE Reading Therapy, our goal is to journey with the student on a reading climb of 2 to 4 grades, or more, to reach their full-reading potential.
“Once you learn to read, you will be forever free.”
– Fredrick Douglass
